From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Wonderful service from Frederick W Paine at a very difficult time. Jane was very supportive throughout and Quentin did an excellent job looking after us on the day. Many thanks.
I cannot express in just 5 starts how wonderful Jane and the team have been at Frederick W Paine in New Malden. Of all the things in life we avoid, death is perhaps one of them, so when your loved one passes you are thrown into a world you may not know. From collecting the deceased through to all the arrangements that need to be made leading up to the funeral itself,......and this is where Jane was just so amazing, holding our hands every single step of the way, efficient, organised, sensitive and so helpful, simply nothing was too much trouble. Her advice reflected years of experience and her attention to detail was amazing. The end result was a funeral that was so beautiful, every detail was thought about and the funeral directors on the day were brilliant at adapting to the special needs of the day.
I do not know what more anyone could expect.
So highly do I recommend them, that my hubby and I have just taken out a funeral plan with Dignity because they were so good.
Death is a hard period. Choosing FW Paine took so much pressure away from us, and made the day the perfect send off.
Thank you xxxx
Recently delivered funeral flowers for a friends father who had sadly passed, it was nice to work with you, very professional and organised. Look forward to working with you in the future.
The funeral arrangements were made in a calm and professional manner. The staff were all respectful of my situation while being properly businesslike. I was told of all the available options and allowed to make my own decions about the arrangements. Once the arrangements were made, the funeral director kept to the agreed times and the planned timetable worked well. I did not feel under any inappropriate pressure and was able to make decisions in my own time. I was able to include hymns, music and photographs of my own choice in the services and orders of service.
Thank you for the kind comments posted on your online review. I am glad that we were able to provide you with the dignity and respect needed at this time. I am happy that we were able to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of a difficult situation and make things easier for you.
All the staff, Jane in the office and Jim and Garry on the day were kind and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.
I am pleased to hear that the service was carried out to your satisfaction. We are thankful to the team for making your special day so personal.
